BRANDCENTER GOES VIRTUAL
Growing safety concerns surrounding COVID-19 moved all Brandcenter classes online through the end of the semester. Despite the unexpected transition, Brandcenter students are finding creative ways to keep on keepin' on. In fact, one first year student saw an opportunity within the crisis to create a COVID-19 resource for her community in Chapel Hill, NC.
BRANDCENTER + WORKING NOT WORKING
Along with our other recent adjustments, student and recruiter participation in our annual Recruiter Session is also impacted by COVID-19. We searched for new ways to ensure our students receive the support they need heading into graduation, without compromising the Brandcenter educational experience. We were exceptionally grateful when Working Not Working, a curated online community for full-time and freelance talent, agreed to partner with us.
Working Not Working (WNW) is offering free lifetime membership to all 103 members of the Class of 2020. In the coming weeks, WNW will create a special section of its site to feature our recent grads. Recruiters will be able to search by discipline, skill, etc.
Stay tuned: portfolios for 2020 grads will go live on our Brandcenter website May 1 and on WNW's website May 11.
THANK YOU, #BRANDFAM
During these unprecedented times, we couldn’t be more thankful for our #BrandFam. Last month, we reached out to our alumni network seeking mentors for our second year students. As these students prepare to present their portfolios and graduate in May, we asked if our alums would review student work and provide feedback from the perspective of those doing the jobs the students hope to get one day.
We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the positive response from our alumni. More alums volunteered to be mentors than students available (a good problem to have!). The COVID-19 crisis impacts everyone; we recognize that volunteering to work outside of a normal schedule is no easy task, especially now. Thank you, #BrandFam. Your kindness and generosity during this difficult time is so impactful.
MARISSA LIU (XD, 2021) SELECTED FOR ROGER HATCHUEL STUDENT ACADEMY
Marissa Liu, a first year experience design student, was one of 40 students worldwide chosen to attend the Roger Hatchuel Student Academy at the Cannes Lions Festival. Though Cannes recently cancelled this year's festival, Marissa looks forward to joining the Academy in 2021. Check out Marissa's stellar video entry: a touching personal narrative that speaks to her hybrid heritage and skill set.
SUPPORTING RESTAURANTS DURING CORONAVIRUS
In response to restaurants closing and sports seasons ending, alum Jerry Hoak (AD, 2005) and his team at The Martin Agency quickly launched two campaigns in support of DoorDash and Buffalo Wild Wings.
We can always count on bizarre internet stunts to give us a smile, right? In a new campaign for Fanta, Chris Colliton (XD, 2012), Kevin Weir (AD, 2012) and their team from 72andSunny Amsterdam championed the real people behind some of YouTube’s craziest content.
New Alumni Freelancer Directory
In case you missed it, we created an Alumni Freelancer Directory featuring our alums who freelance full-time. If your company or agency needs freelancers, it’s a great resource.
