Meet your instructor:
Senior Motion Designer
Rick has been working professionally for 10+ years in the motion design and 3D animation industry, with clients such as Airbus, Pfizer, WalMart, Google, DoorDash, The Martin Agency, Arts & Letters, Discover Card, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, and other Fortune 50 companies on the East Coast.
He graduated in Art Direction from the Brandcenter in 2014, where he was voted “Most Likely to Use Cinema 4D for No Reason” unanimously by his peers. Since 2016, he's parlayed that fascination into teaching Experience Design and Art Direction students how to use motion design principles and technical skills to execute on their imaginations.

Program Instruction Details
This is a hybrid 60% asynchronous / 40% synchronous, project-based learning program taught by Rick Plautz, Brandcenter professor of practice. Assignments will be broken up into short, digestible screen capture tutorials and completed asynchronously.
3D graphics and animation are a part of nearly every aspect of our lives now, from visual effects in movies, high-end commercials, to Snapchat lenses, augmented reality – the list goes on. This program will introduce you to an easy-to-use Adobe application to get acquainted with the 3-dimensional world, while also making beautiful renderings of products along the way.
Adobe Dimension is optimized for creatives to make photoreal renderings of products and packaging that can be used to mock up client requests or sell new ideas. Have a new wine bottle design you need to present? Create a photoreal scene of the new label, on a bottle, with a vineyard in the background; no more Adobe Photoshop mockups of other artist’s work.
Using 3D graphics is a powerful tool to have in or add to any creative’s arsenal. The 2-week crash course in Adobe Dimension is tailored for creative professionals to achieve this.
You might ask: “Why can’t I just sign up for a LinkedIn Learning course about this?”
You can…but this BCX program gives you the added benefit of 1-on-1 support to help answer your individual questions, provide creative feedback, and integrate the knowledge from Rick’s 10+ years of experience.
At the end of each assignment, participants will get together virtually, share work and knowledge with each other, and ask the instructor questions.
Rick will also be available throughout the program for 1-on-1 meetings to discuss technical issues, concepting help, etc.
In two weeks, you will have a collection of 3D product and packaging renderings, made by you, showing your understanding of 3D and competence in Adobe Dimension.
- Lighting a scene
- Camera basics: focal length, focus, framing
- Scene composition / set dressing
- 3D object import / manipulation
- Label design
- Post-production in Adobe Photoshop
Assets you’ll make from scratch (from guided tutorials):
- Glass Bottle presentation (Wine / Alcohol / etc.)
- Business Card / Letterhead mockup
- Product Packaging redesign 1 (from a choice of pre-made 3D package objects)
- Product Packaging redesign 2
At the end of the session, you will know how to see and think in 3 dimensions to visualize products and packaging ideas for your clients (or yourself). Understanding and conceptualizing in 3D space can open up possibilities at the forefront of technology; including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) applications.
Who should enroll?
Any creative in the advertising/branding/marketing industry, at any level, who would like to sharpen their skills and expand their knowledge into 3D product and packaging rendering for branding and advertising.
Make sure to have a computer, a strong internet connection, the Zoom application, and access to the Adobe Creative Suite. All other software, resources, and references will be provided.
Please contact email@example.com with any questions.
After completing a BCX program, participants will receive a certificate of completion, enhanced understanding of the program material, and a new network of professional colleagues.
Frequently Asked Questions
Rick developed short assignments that will take no more than 90 minutes to watch and do, with sections broken up to be no longer than 25 minutes (usually much shorter).
There will be a 1-hour kickoff meeting at the start of the program and the tutorials for the first project will be released. The kickoff will be an opportunity to meet the other students, talk to Rick and ask questions as needed.
Of course, and they can be about anything. The instructor will be available to give expert advice regarding assignments, troubleshooting, or brainstorming help, inside or outside of class projects.
The course will be 60% asynchronous / 40% synchronous; meaning the learning will be done individually with meetings at the end of each assignment to show work and share tips. ‘Office Hours’ will also be available.
The participants will gather (virtually) to share work, tips, and ask questions. Afterwards, Rick will talk about the next project and release the next batch of tutorials.
