Advertising legend Joyce King Thomas to speak at VCU Brandcenter commencement

The VCU Brandcenter is thrilled to announce Joyce King Thomas as its 2019 commencement speaker on May 11th.

Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of McCann XBC (ExtraBoldCondensed), Joyce is best known as the creator and writer behind Mastercard’s Priceless campaign, which ran in 100 countries and was spoofed by everyone from Ralph Nader to Bart Simpson. She was one of the 100 most award-winning chief creative officers of 2018. Only 8 of those 100 are women and only 4 of those 8 are from the US.

During two decades at McCann, she rose to Chief Creative Officer and helped win not just Mastercard, but the U.S. Army, Weight Watchers, Staples, Verizon, and Nikon. Most recently she was part of the team that created Fearless Girl for State Street Global Advisors, and the “Vicious Cycle” video in support of March For Our Lives’ mission to stop gun violence. AdAge named Joyce one of the 100 Most Influential Women in Advertising. Her work has won multiple awards, including Cannes Lions and One Show Pencils, and she has served as a judge for many top award shows.
