Brandcenter Students Win Big at 2019 Richmond Ad Show

VCU Brandcenter rising second year Isabel Kerr (CW, 2021) was awarded “Best in Show - Student Show” for her Alzheimer’s Association film at the 2019 Richmond Ad Show, an annual celebration of advertising work from across Virginia. Kerr’s film for the Alzheimer’s Association, which she created in her Problem Solving class during her first semester at the Brandcenter, depicts the difficult journey of an Alzheimer’s patient using a series of phone reminders.

“Alzheimer’s disease is so cruel and hard to grasp as someone experiencing it firsthand or as a caretaker/loved one,” said Kerr. “For those without the experience, it’s even harder to understand what the day-to-day progression looks like and how much it robs you of every basic function. I landed on phone reminders as a tangible, commonplace way many of us interact with our memory. From there, I started brainstorming a range of basic activities, from tasks that are reasonably forgettable to functions that should be instinctive.”

“The show must go online,” was the rallying cry at this year’s Richmond Ad Show, hosted virtually on the Richmond Ad Club Facebook page on July 17, 2020. The Richmond Show recognizes work in four major categories: Design, Interactive, Production, and Student Work.
