Scott Witthaus is editor and creative on "The Judge" documentary
Brandcenter faculty member Scott Witthaus is the editor and creative team member for the recently released documentary, The Judge: Cases. Character. Courage.
The documentary follows Judge Robert R. Merhige, Jr. in his distinguished, momentous, and tumultuous 31-year tenure on the Federal bench. He fought against the status quo to promote racial and gender equality, protect the environment, uphold the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution. The film features interviews from U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), Anne Holton, and Judge Merhige’s former law clerk, among many others.
"It was an honor to be part of this film, especially in the light of today's over-politicized judiciary," said Witthaus. "The opportunity allowed me to bring my real-world experience into my Visual Storytelling classes and show my students another side and process of storytelling. Additionally, the documentary was edited on Final Cut Pro X, which is the exact same software used in my classes. It was a four-year edit and I brought my students along for the ride," Witthaus concluded.
The film, which debuted on Virginia Public Media in December 2020, has been slated for international release on 1/26/2021 via TVOD (Transactional Video On-Demand) and streaming platforms. Read more about the project on Deadline and Film Threat.
