The first sunshine to meet my skin was from the skies of Damascus, Syria—one of the oldest inhabited cities on earth, a place that has seen the rise and fall of empires, the birth and death of civilizations, and the passing of countless generations. The thought of my birthplace fills me with awe and wonder, knowing that millions of stories had unfolded there before me, and all of them had led up to mine. I carry the responsibility of ensuring that my life leaves a positive impact in a land unknown to my forefathers with pride.
