Earl Cox, a beloved member of the Richmond marketing and advertising community, passed away in September 2024. In addition to his impactful contributions at The Martin Agency and Brand Federation, Earl was a long-time contributor and supporter of the Brandcenter and our students. Over the years, he served as an early advisor, board member, adjunct professor, independent study advisor, and guest lecturer. He mentored countless students and alums who’ve gone on to lead strategy at top agencies, consultancies, and brands, and his professional legacy lives on through them.
Huge thanks to Brand Federation,The Martin Agency, The Mom Complex and Jay Picard (Strategy, 1999) who joined forces to establish a scholarship at the Brandcenter in Earl’s name.
About the scholarship, Kelly O’Keefe at Brand Federation said, “In the advertising industry, where it often seems like nobody has time for other people, Earl Cox always made time. He advised a small army of strategists, acting as a doula to their ideas and sherpa to their careers. My partners and I thought about how Earl would like to be honored, and we all came to the same conclusion. Earl loved mentoring Brandcenter students and alumni, and he would love to be remembered with a scholarship to support future strategists. It’s our honor to be able to support this cause and the best school in the business of brands and creative thinking.”
